Message from the president

To our community and members:

Since the downturn of the economy in 2006, many financial institutions have suffered a significant financial loss which has led them to financial assistance from the government. American 1 Federal Credit Union has not, and is pleased to report that we have remained profitable every quarter since the dramatic economic downturn. We have also maintained a high equity percentage.
David Puckett, President/CEO
Why is American 1 different? First, we don’t finance mortgages — neither prime nor sub-prime. Second, we are not involved in commercial lending. Lastly, we don’t stretch out our lending terms, because shorter terms allow us to be flexible and to adapt to the economic environment when needed. We do not take risks with our members’ money, and we specialize in offering the auto loan expertise that you need. In fact, American 1 holds the most auto loans out of any financial institution in Jackson County.

If you’re worried about the health of your financial institution, look into their financial statements. Financials are a publicly-available way to gauge the health and safety of your credit union or bank. Even though every financial institution is insured, either by the NCUA or FDIC, not every financial institution is secure.

You can expect the same quality and reliable service from American 1 that you always have. Unlike many financial institutions, we’re not changing our name or moving out of town. We are proud to be the only financial institution offering the community more than 40 full-service, no-surcharge ATMs. We are also adding a new convenient branch location and we are continuing to provide more free, family-focused community events.

Thanks to our members and the community, American 1 has weathered the financial storm. We look forward to serving you.

American 1 President/CEO

Why do you have a womans Expo and not a Mens expo.

Why not have Just a Expo. Its seems like you favor woman customer over men.

Thanks for the suggestion, Phillip – it’s one we’ve heard before over the years. If you’d like to help us organize one, we’d love to have your input.

We don’t favor women members over men – in the same way that K105.3 FM’s Outdoor Expo doesn’t make them favor male listeners over female listeners. Our Pet Expo doesn’t make us favor pet owners over people who are pet-free.

In this case, we were able to bring together a diverse group of women-focused vendors for one big event.

Feel free to visit any of the gun and knife shows, boat or car shows, JAXPO (for the all-in-one expo), or any other local community event to get what you need.

It seems alot of woman go to Car shows and Guns shows. and they don’t advertise that they are Mens Gun show and Mens Car shows. I never heard of a Mens outdoor expo. they would be sued for discrimination.

American1 does not offer mortgage loans, and prefers to have only short term loan as a way of remaining flexible. However I think that considering the inability to finance a low amount mortgage loan with other institutions, if American1 would offer relatively small mortgage loans to the Jackson area residents, this could serve two purposes. One would be the creation of income to American1 from a market un-served and virtually guaranteed to get plenty of business. And two, the ability to offer financial power to those of us who do not have a large income. Everytime I find a home I want to buy, it is prices low(15-30K), however nobody offers mortgage loans that low, which virtually locks us out of the housing market. Offering mortgage loans in this range would present an opportunity for American1 to make a HUGE difference in the lives of the community residents and with only a medium level risk. I think this would have much more community impact than any of the community events undertaken.
