Enjoy a free root beer float on us

Free root beer floats!

As a treat, we’re giving away free root beer floats to anyone who stops into our branches during September.

We’re celebrating America’s car culture all month long, and the auto loan experts at American 1 are going to try out hands at being root beer float experts. We’ll see how it goes.

Stop by these branches for your free treat:

  • North St.: Thursday, Sept. 9, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., 3-5 p.m.
  • Grass Lake: Thursday, Sept. 9, 3-5 p.m.
  • Vandercook: Thursday, Sept. 9, 2-5 p.m.
  • Home Office: Friday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m. – noon, 2-4 p.m.
  • Battle Creek: Friday, Sept. 10, 2-4 p.m.
  • Hillsdale: Thursday, Sept. 16, 2-4 p.m.
  • Parnall: Friday, Sept. 17, 2-4 p.m.
  • Brooklyn: Friday, Sept. 17, 3-5 p.m.
  • Chelsea: Friday, Sept. 10, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

When you’re at the branch, be sure to vote for your favorite car company, and get pre-approved for our payment-free auto loan promotion!

Why no times for the root beer floats after 5pm when people get out of work?

I agree….those of us with a first shift job are left out…as is typical…perhaps its just their way of being cheap…I’m personally getting tired of all the cheesy promo’s, especially the ones only for new accounts, what about those of us who are loyal members, what have you done for us lately….instead of wasting money on junk and sponsoring everything in sight, how about paying some dividends????

Thanks, both Frank and William, for the suggestion on activities after 5:00. It’s certainly not because we’re ignoring anyone. And it’s definitely not because we’re “cheap” – or else we wouldn’t do fun things like this at all, right? But we can take those who get out of work at 5:00 into consideration in the future.

In fact, we do most of our promotions for current members: this current payment-free auto loan deal, the loan rebate, car sales, double ScoreCard points on Visa transactions, etc. We do special membership promotions to try and get people to become members, but those have dropped off in the past few months. We love our current, loyal members – they’re the reason, after all, both of you can stop in after you get out of work at 5:00 and do your banking. All our branches have extended hours, and that’s specifically for our members. So are the 40+ ATMs we have all over south central Michigan. Members appreciate those kinds of things.

Or take the new North St. Branch. We heard our member complaints about parking and space at Argyle, so we opened a new, bigger, better branch at North St. – with more drive through spaces and the same extended hours.

Frank, we don’t feel we’re “wasting money on junk.” As a credit union, we feel very strongly about doing fun things for our members, like popcorn Fridays at the Home Office or free community events, because that’s what makes us who we are.

Ask someone in the community what American 1 stands for, and chances are they won’t say we’re “wasting” our money – especially in times like these.

On the dividends: part of that is because of our currently-low loan rates. It’s a give and take when we offer low loan rates like we do now. With rare exceptions, you’ll find savings rates are lower than they have been all over the place.

Thanks again for your comments and suggestions.

I think the promotions are a good idea to try and get new members. It’s absolutely necessary to keep on getting new folks to join us. I appreciate the benefits of a credit union vs. the usual national banks. I would like to say thank you for the promotions.

I too appreciate the promotons, however, I would also like to see something after 5 pm. I do not get home from work until 6:00 PM and generally miss out.

So, keep up the promotions and start brainstorming about how we 1st shifters can be included.

Would-da been nice! Changed my plans so I could be at the Brooklyn A1 during the Free Root Float promo – advertised between 3-5pm – only to find that they changed the times to between 2-4pm. I arrived at the Brooklyn American1 at 4:03pm on 09/17 and no root beer float. It would have been a nice treat!
