On Friday, July 12th ten talented teens took center stage at the Jackson County Fairgrounds Grandstands at American 1 Teen Idol, presented by American 1 Credit union.  American 1 Teen Idol is a youth singing event, where over fifty teens auditioned and ten teens from area cities were selected to perform in the final competition.

Cailtin LeBlanc took first place winning $1,000, and an iPad.  Jeremiah Weaver took second winning $250.  Tyler Bennett took third place winning $150.  The remaining seven contestants won $50. Each of the contestants also won a prize pack filled with items donated by area businesses and a trophy.

The judges were Bob Hoffman of the Wharton Center, Cheryl Fritze of Fox 47 News Morning Blend, and Colleen Flynn of Jackson School of the Arts.  The judges had a great time at the event, but all agreed that the decisions were very tough as all the teens were very talented.

This event is also a fundraiser in which each teen in the top ten is required to raise a minimum of $250 and to declare a charity of choice.  $2,000 is automatically donated to the Jackson School of the Arts, and the rest of the money raised is donated to the overall winner’s charity of choice.  This year, the teens raised a total of $3,622.  Caitlin’s charity of choice was The Ronan Thompson Foundation; a check for $1,622 was donated to this great cause in Caitlin’s honor.

The American 1 Raises $2,000 for the Cascades Humane Society through Local Pet Expo

JACKSON, Mich. – American 1 Credit Union is dedicated to the communities they serve and feel strongly about giving back.  On Saturday, February 9 from 10am to 2pm, thirty local pet vendors were in the American 1 Event Center at the Jackson County Fairgrounds for the American 1 Paws & Claws Pet Expo.

This free event was a fundraising event for the Cascades Humane Society (CHS).  All vendor booth fees, concession proceeds, craft area donations, and pet photo contest proceeds were donated to CHS.  CHS also accepted several items for the shelter such as pet food, toys, litter, etc.

This event featured a Pet Fashion at 12pm.  There were thirteen dogs and one cat in this year’s expo.  The only cat, named Archer, took this year’s Top Dog Model award, leaving American 1 staff members pleasantly surprised!  “I guess we’ll have to rework the name of the award”, said Jayme Bicknell Event Coordinator for American 1 Credit Union, “We were very excited to have a cat in the show, and we’ll be sure to rename the award for next year to be more cat friendly,” she continued.

For a $1 donation guests could enter their favorite pet photo into our “Cutest Pet” Photo Contest.  This year a lab named Roger too the title of “Cutest Pet”, winning a $25 gift card to Pet Supplies Plus.

Overall over $1,740 was raised for the Cascades Humane Society.  American 1 Credit Union rounded that dollar amount up to an even $2,000.  The credit union makes no proceeds on this event, and even covers the costs of all of the rentals beyond what they donate.

There were also several animals available for adoption from vendors such as The Cascades Humane Society, Last Day Dog Rescue, Mid-Michigan Cat Rescue, Jaxon Kennel Club, and Unleashed… Under Control.

American 1’s Winter Wonderland raises over $7,000 for charity

For eleven days in December, the American 1 Event Center at the Jackson County Fairgrounds was transformed into Jackson’s own North Pole for the third year of the American 1 Winter Wonderland (WWL) event, an added event to the Nite Lites in 2008.

Not only did Santa and Mrs. Claus visit, but Santa’s reindeer showed up, with holiday puppet shows and train rides ran every night. New this year, The Home Depot Kid’s Workshop on Friday’s and Saturday’s and the Jackson School of the Arts dance performance on a special night.

For the third year, the Holiday Tree Decoration contest took place in which local businesses and non-profits entered to decorate a tree.

The contest was a fundraiser for charity with 35 live, potted pine trees inside the American 1 Event Center entered into this year’s contest. Guests could vote for their favorite tree by making donations and bid in a silent auction to win the decorations and the tree to take home and plant in their yard. Money raised for each tree was given to a charity chosen by each registrant in the contest.

Guests attending Winter Wonderland donated nearly $6,500 through donations and auction bids. This year’s winning tree was decorated by the 6NW Allegiance Hospital, raising over $700, the highest amount raised by any of the trees, and winning an additional $500 for their charity. The 6NW Allegiance Hospital chose the Stage 4 Traveling Pants, a support organization for women with Stage 4 breast cancer, as their charity and they will receive a donation of over $1,200.

“We thank the community for their support with all we do. If it was not for businesses, organizations and residents getting involved, our community efforts would not have the impact they do,” said Liz Niles, Community Relations Manager for American 1.
