Movie in the Park moved indoors

Bad news yet again: we’re moving our Movie in the Park indoors because of the threat of rain Friday night.

This is the way it’s gone all summer. We schedule outdoor events for the Riverwalk Amphitheater, and then get rained out when the day of the event comes. We like to be more safe than sorry, though, because we don’t want guests getting soaked.

So we’ll show “Hotel for Dogs” Friday, Aug. 21 at the Middle School at Parkside auditorium starting at 8 p.m. Look for affordable refreshments and a free dog collar bracelet for the first 100 kids who attend.

See you then!

In the end, the kittens were too much for him.

Actually, it’s our downtown Jackson scarecrow for Scarecrow Row, going on this fall. The kittens are on sale at our branches to support the Cascades Humane Society and the Paws & Claws Expo. Grab one for $5!

UPDATE: look for our mad scientist scarecrow right in front of City Hall in downtown Jackson!

Watch this year’s American 1 Teen Idol performances

Good news: we put together a video of all ten semi-finalists’ performances during Teen Idol 2008. I took a snippet of video from each and put them all together.

Also, check out the Jackson Citizen Patriot’s article on the event this weekend.

With Blair’s video, and now this one, we’ll put together one more that highlights all the action from that night, so stay tuned!

Free Movie in the Park this Friday

Join us for a “date night” this Friday night for our second Movie in the Park event.

Bring a blanket or a chair and head to the Riverwalk Amphitheater in downtown Jackson after Cruise Night. We’ll start the movie at dusk.

The movie is “50 First Dates,” and the event is free to attend. Discount-priced popcorn and refreshments will be on hand for you and your date.

See you there – and hopefully the weather cooperates this time.

Join us for Ladies Night Out movie series

Ladies, grab a gal pal and leave the kids at home for a fun, relaxing evening just for the girls! We’re teaming up with the Michigan Theatre to bring a new movie series called “Ladies Night Out.”

Ladies Night Out will feature “chick flicks” in the beautiful, historic Michigan Theatre. Along with the usual movie staples like popcorn, soda, and candy, gourmet treats may also be available. Tickets will be $6.

All shows begin at 7 p.m. and all proceeds of the event go to the Michigan Theatre for upkeep and restoration.

Here’s are the movies scheduled for each date:

  • May 28: “27 Dresses” “Beaches”
  • July 30: “27 Dresses”
  • September 24: “Pretty Woman”
  • November 19: “What Happens in Vegas”

Stay tuned for any date or movie changes, and don’t forget about our Movie in the Park series happening after Cruise Nights on Fridays in downtown Jackson this summer.

If you’ve never been to downtown Jackson’s Michigan Theatre, it’s quite the experience. The Michigan Theatre is the last of many downtown theatres, and renovations have been under way for years now.
