Our Parnall Branch is recycling

rparnall1

I got an e-mail from Michelle over at Parnall, asking for advice on how to start a recycling program in her branch.

Now we’re talking.

Michelle is getting her staff involved in the process, and they’re looking for ways to reuse dishware and silverware, reduce the amount of waste they produce, and recycle whatever they can: paper, plastic, and cardboard.

As you can see, their initial effort is going strong. This is their makeshift recycling room, with paper, cardboard, and even some styrofoam ready to be recycled.

Nice job Parnall!

Plastic recycling a hit at Home Office

In just under one week, our new plastic recycling bin in the Home Office break room filled up.

I think it’s officially a hit.

A few straggler items, like plastic bags and cutlery, had to be pulled out – but otherwise, it’s nothing but plastic bottles and yogurt containers and water jugs. All of those could’ve gone to the trash, and then on to some landfill or incinerator somewhere. But not at American 1.

Got water? Our water bottles explained.

American 1\'s customized water bottles

Everyone loves our water.

They love it so much, in fact, that we found out we gave away about 60,000 bottles in less than a year. From late last summer, when we introduced the new label design (above) to now, 60,000 water bottles have been taken and consumed. Amazing.

Why does American 1 do it? For one, it’s a great giveaway to charity golf events and school carnivals. We get tons of requests from non-profits to donate giveaways at community activities, and what could be better than a bottle of water?

We also use our bottled water to raise money for groups that helps us out during events like Kids’ Fest. A group from Hanover-Horton High School ran our concession stands, selling our bottled water for $0.25 – and all the money they raised was donated back to their organization.

If you’re lucky enough to come in during one of our Home Office popcorn Fridays, you can usually snag a bottle to wash down the popcorn. We also give bottles away at the myriad other activities we have going on. The stuff is popular.

The Water Store here in Jackson puries, bottles, and labels the water for us, and the water tastes great.

It must, if we’ve gone through 2,500 cases already.
