American 1 Teen Idols tomorrow

Teen Idol - Singing her heart out

Tomorrow night we celebrate our seventh Teen Idols event, with a new location, a bunch of new competitors, and even an added “S” on the end of the name. We did that because we’ve invited singing groups besides the 10 competitors to perform for guests.

Also, Home.fm’s Adam and Ben will emcee the event once again this year. For those of you who caught them at Parkside last year, you know they’re a hoot.

Something to watch for: both 2009’s runner-up and third place winners, Olivia Hale and Taylor Hawkins, return for this year’s competition. Historically, top-placing contestants do well when they return at our event. It’s no guarantee, but it’s something to keep an eye on.

Emmaline Brown, TR Krupa, Charlotte Prenevost, Tony Smith, and Shannon Watts are also Teen Idols veterans, while Amanda Collins, Austin Lyon, and Kristin Thomas are the rookies. And hey, rookies have won before.

It all starts tomorrow night at 6 p.m. at the Jackson County Fairgrounds. In the meantime, be sure to check out past performances at our Flickr photo gallery.

Be sure to check out the Jackson Citizen Patriot’s write-up on the event, featured in this week’s In Town & Around.

Teen Idol - Singing her heart out

Sure, it didn’t rain, but the Middle School at Parkside autorium provided a great venue for this year’s Teen Idol singing competition.

Check out pictures from the event on our Flickr page.

Congratulations to Bridgette Powell (above) of Jackson, this year’s Teen Idol champion. Bridgette returned from a third-place finish at the 2008 Teen Idol event.

Olivia Hale was our runner-up, and Taylor Hawkins took third place.

Teen Idol locations changes due to rain

Head’s up: we’re changing the location of our Teen Idol event due to threat of rain.

Join us Friday, July 10 at 6 p.m. at the Middle School at Parkside auditorium, located at 2400 Fourth St. in Jackson. Same date, same place, just a different location.

The weather forecast isn’t looking good for Friday. Threats of rain and thunderstorms are moving our singing competition indoors.

See you Friday night!

A1 Teen Idol to appear on Fox’s ‘American Idol’

We always knew she had what it takes.

Jessika Baier, American 1’s 2006 Teen Idol singing contest winner, will appear on Fox’s “American Idol” program sometime this week – possibly tomorrow night. Jessika won a Moose Lodge singing contest to earn tickets to Puerto Rico to audition.

She was one of 16 to audition in front of the four main “American Idol” judges, says the Jackson Citizen Patriot.

Jessika placed second in American 1’s 2005 Teen Idol contest, and won the competition the next year. We awarded her a trip to audition for “American Idol,” too. She told us she made it to the audition, but wouldn’t appear on TV.

Now she gets her big break.

You can see her performing for the AP news service on this YouTube video – she yodels at the 1:30 mark.

Congratulations, Jessika!

Good news: we put together a video of all ten semi-finalists’ performances during Teen Idol 2008. I took a snippet of video from each and put them all together.

Also, check out the Jackson Citizen Patriot’s article on the event this weekend.

With Blair’s video, and now this one, we’ll put together one more that highlights all the action from that night, so stay tuned!

Blair wins Teen Idol 2008

Check out our 2008 Teen Idol winner, Blair Grotbeck from Adrian, in his encore performance.

Check back later for more videos and photos of the event!

Friday’s tip of the week.

If you’re coming to Teen Idol tonight (6 p.m., downtown Jackson), you don’t have to worry about thunder sticks (above) or snacks or talented teens.

Our tip? Bring a blanket or chair to sit on.

The Riverwalk Amphitheater is a comfy, cozy place to watch a music event. But to avoid grass stains on your shorts (it’s going to be warm!), bring something to sit on.

To get you warmed up, here are pictures of last year’s competition. See you tonight!

Announcing: Teen Idol 2008 lineup

Teen Idol stage in downtown Jackson

[Update: Congrats to Blair, who won our 2008 competition. Check out the video of his encore performance.]

Who will take the stage at this year’s American 1 Teen Idol competition?

After listening to more than 100 teens in Jackson, Hillsdale, Calhoun, Washtenaw, and Lenawee Counties, we’ve narrowed it down to 10 semi-finalists who will compete for a $2,000 savings bond and a trip to a Fox “American Idol” audition city. Plus each contestant will be raising $250 that will benefit the Jackson School of the Arts and a charity of their choice.

The 2008 lineup includes:

  • Emmaline Brown (14) of Hillsdale
  • Blair Grotbeck (18) of Adrian
  • Teeshlee Hawkins (18) of Jackson
  • Bobby Kucinski (16) of Chelsea
  • Austin Olano (17) of Adrian

  • Charlotte Prenevost (13) of Jackson
  • Kelly Preston (16) of Jackson
