Get holiday deals using your American 1 cards

lifetakesvisaholidays

If you’re a holiday shopper, you know to never pay full price – or full shipping – on anything, right?

Just in time for discount shoppers, both Visa and Mastercard are offering discounts to many merchants just by using their cards. For American 1 members, that means simply using your American 1 Visa credit card or Mastercard debit card can earn you great deals from big-name retailers.

Mastercard is offering its Mastercard Savings program free for any Mastercard debit card holders. After you sign up, Mastercard will send you links and coupons for discounts while you shop. The discounts apply to both online and brick-and-mortar retailers. Their How it Works page shows some examples of the discounts offered.

Visa, on the other hand, seems to tailor their discounts around the holidays. Their Holiday Deal Train page is decked-out in winter scenery, and a online train that shows various retailer discounts.

Both of these programs are free for American 1 cardholders to use. Mastercard’s Savings program does come with a $30/year premium feature, but it’s totally optional.

If you use either of these programs, be sure to let us know how it goes. Were the discounts enough? What retailers did you use? Sound off in the comments!

Tip of the day: Sign up for e-statements, get free Bill pay

You probably know that when you sign up for American 1’s e-statement service, you can take advantage of our online Bill Pay services for no charge.

Some members, however, have noticed that they still get charged for using Bill Pay after signing up for e-statements.

Here’s the fix: after you sign up for e-statements, log on to our A1@home home banking system, and then head to the Bill Pay area. Bill Pay recognizes that you are enrolled in the system and stops the monthly fee.

The issue seems to be with members who rarely use Bill Pay. Regular Bill Pay users never recieve a charge; it’s only members who haven’t used the system that seem to get charged.

So remember: after signing up for e-statements, immediately head to the Bill Pay site, and everything should be automatic. Check out our Bill Pay page for instructions on how to get set up.

Pardon the mess: our site’s under construction

If you visit our homepage anytime in the past day or so, you might have noticed things were a bit…different.

After a bit of research and experimentation, I’m redesigning our homepage to be a little more user-friendly. What do you think so far?

The parts that change, the Promotions and Events sections, were stuck at the bottom of the old site. Really, it should be at the top since it’s always changing. Now it is.

Also, with just the headings and links, the front page looked a bit too simple. So I added a graphic to highlight whatever special deal we’ve got going on.

And finally, all the meat and potatoes – savings, lending, etc. – have moved to the bottom, with more options. Some had issue with the inability to find what they were looking for. I hope we’ve fixed that.

Let me know what you think of the changes either way.
